That’s one big banana!!! Ha! 😉 On a recent drive back from visiting family in Oregon, we decided to make a quick stop in Portland to grab some Mississippi Pizza (they have the absolute best gluten free pizza and live music for kids! Can’t pass that up right?). On our way there we spotted this giant banana mural, which is most likely the biggest banana we’ll ever see in our lifetime, so we had to get out and show the kids. They seriously loved it and kept taking turns running up and smacking it! It was hilarious! I’m trying hard to imagine what that must be like, being so little and seeing an enormous version of your favorite food plastered on a wall, probably had something to do with why they were giggling so much. Stormy was also really excited about that little gorilla and came up with some pretty darn good impersonations…it was some great road trip entertainment for the rest of our drive back!

Mommy and Me Matching Mohawk Hairdo

Mommy and Me Matching Mohawk HairdoMommy and Me Matching Mohawk HairdoMommy and Me Matching Mohawk HairdoMommy and Me Matching Mohawk HairdoMommy and Me Matching Mohawk HairdoI do my hair in this faux hawk updo pretty often (you may have noticed from my profile pic and Instagram page) …maybe even a little too often. But it’s one of those hairdo’s that looks like it took a long time when it’s actually very quick and easy, therefore it has become my go to. Besides that, a basic topknot looks TERRIBLE on me, I think it may be due to my large head. I tend to gravitate towards bigger hairstyles that will hopefully compensate for this noggin of mine, haha, good theory right? So, as soon as Ev’s hair grew out long enough I just had to do this hairdo on her too! Baby hawks are seriously the cutest, and I gotta get my matchy matchy time in while I still can 😉

To replicate this faux hawk updo, just divide hair into 3-5 topknots down the middle of your head (I do 3 when I have less time and usually poof up the front of my hair), and that’s it! So easy and definitely adds that extra bit of spunk to any outfit. One of these days when I have a bit more time I’m going to try adding some braids! I’ll let you know how it turns out!

DIY Mommy and Me Matching Best Friends Jackets

DIY Mommy and Me Best Friends Jackets Matching OutfitDIY Mommy and Me Best Friends Jackets Matching OutfitAfter seeing this photo of Shea Marie and Caroline Vreeland from NYFW floating around all over the internet and showing up in my Pinterest feed, I knew I just had to recreate some of these matching best friends jackets for Everly and I. Such a cute keepsake to have and something I will always cherish, and how awesome would it be if one day, many years from now, Everly took some of these photos with her own little girl? One can dream right? 🙂

DIY Mommy and Me Matching Best Friends Jackets OutfitDIY Mommy and Me Matching Best Friends Jackets OutfitMaterials:

Two moto jackets in your sizes (I purchased mine from Forever 21 for around $35 & Ev’s is H&M but I found it used on eBay for $25)

Heart template (I just Googled it and chose an image I liked)

Scissors to cut template

Chalk pencil for tracing

Ruler (to make heart bigger if template is smaller than desired)

Sharpie paint pen

These were pretty straight forward to make, but the hardest part was definitely scaling the hearts to size. I printed my half on a full sheet of printer paper and Ev’s on half of a sheet. I decided I wanted them a little bigger than the template and I also wanted that elementary “I drew this on my best friends binder” sort of look (because I think it makes it look more authentic), so I used the ruler to eyeball around my template and mark it with a chalk pencil. Then I just traced over my line with a sharpie paint pen, let it dry (it dries almost instantly but I waited an hour just to be sure), and then wrote the letters in the middle. Let it dry and they are ready to wear!
